My dog has a look alike wart on his leg, and it has blood scabs around it..?

i just noticed on his back leg a wart and big scab around it. i see him now messing around with his mouth. he probably made it bleed and thats why theres a scab. what should i do? i dont want him messing with it anymore until i go to a vet to get it checked out. should i bandage it? also, what does warts mean on dog? hes a maltese around 11 years old
